When Wealth Must Become Cash: The Family Liquidity Brief

What would need paying before the rest of the plan catches up?

A valuable estate can still face a cash shortfall. Map the timing, recipient and availability of funds before considering insurance or another funding source.

Your working notes

Use broad descriptions, not account numbers, medical details or identity numbers. Repeat a section in your own copy for additional assets or options.

Hypothetical cover amounts, not recommended cover, premiums or confirmation of insurability. Establish the need first.
Example coverQuestion to test
USD 1 millionWhich verified cash calls would it meet?
USD 2 millionWho would receive it and at what time?
USD 3 millionWhat need, affordability and underwriting evidence is required?

The cash calls

What needs paying, by whom, and when?

Funds available at that time

Can the right person actually access each source?

The roles are different

Who holds which role in any proposed policy?

Test the dependencies

What could delay or reduce the funds?

Consider more than insurance

What are the trade-offs of each available source?

Your next decision

Record what needs checking before you commit to anything.

Cover is not the same as accessible cash

Policy proceeds do not automatically bypass probate. Ownership, valid nominations, trust arrangements, jurisdiction and claim requirements affect payment. Have the actual arrangements checked.

Product choice comes later

Term, whole life and universal life insurance have different functions, costs and risks. For indexed universal life, examine charges, crediting assumptions, premiums needed to keep cover in force and stress cases. No eligibility or underwriting outcome is assumed here.

Background reading: MoneySense on endowment insurance, universal life risks and estate transfer arrangements. Product terms and personal circumstances must be checked separately.

Request a confidential liquidity discussion.

A worksheet raises questions; it does not recommend a product or make you a client. Read the confidential discussion notice and commercial relationships before proceeding.

The person handling your discussion, the capacity in which they act and any relevant firm or remuneration will be explained before personal advice or an introduction proceeds.

Request a discussion by email. Send your name and a general objective only, not your completed worksheet or sensitive documents. The email includes optional worksheet and campaign codes so we can identify what brought you here; you can remove them before sending.
